The Rebelstork Guide to Throwing a Virtual and Sustainable Baby Shower

Good news Flock, it IS possible to have an amazing virtual baby shower in our new environment. While it means not being able to host your nearest and dearest in the traditional sense, the silver lining of hosting your shower virtually is that it’s way more sustainable! PLUS, let’s not overlook the fact that you technically only need to get dressed from the waist up. (Cries of joy from every pregnant mama!) So, treat yourself to that comfy new pair of Lululemon’s, because we’re here to give you 4 Tips for Hosting a Virtual, Eco-Friendly Baby Shower to Remember!

1.Get pumped for a total virtual experience

A virtual baby shower requires a virtual place to meet up (obvi!). Luckily, there are plenty of options in the way of websites and apps to get your gang all together on-screen. In fact, we came across one in particular that is PERFECT.

WebBabyShower offers an all-in-one place for all your virtual baby shower desires. You can customize the site, send unlimited invitations, create a printable virtual guestbook, play games, host quizzes and generate a private photo book.  Did they know social distancing was coming?

2.Choose easy & fresh decor

You know what they say, flowers bring beauty to any room! That said, did you know that not all flowers are organic? Some farms use chemicals to keep insects at bay, which can end up affecting organic matter in soil. To make sure your blooms are as sustainable as possible, look to companies that are farm-to-table, so to speak—companies that source fair trade flowers, cut the stems and have the flowers to you within a few days. Specifically, look for blooms aren't grown with chemicals or grown under harsh working conditions.

Rebelstork organic flower picks:

Eco-Stems - This Toronto based shop was founded with environmental and social sustainability at its core- these guys walk the talk!

Pop Up Flower Shop Inc - This cool Toronto concept takes their responsibility and connection the Earth seriously. They source flowers locally and do their part for the Earth by exercising eco-friendly practices like foam-free arrangements and non-plastic packaging.

3.Mix in the circular economy when building a gift list

There are going to be items that you want brand new and there are going to be items that you prefer re-sale.  Make it easy for your guests to help you get the items you need for your baby in a mindful way.  This can include a combination of choosing sustainably made brands and pre-loved items.

Rebelstork sustainable brand picks:

Rebelstork (obvi!) – preloved baby gear at fair prices, and they ship nationally! ;)

Lillebaby - One of our fave baby brands that is committed to minimizing their impact on the environment by creating environmentally responsible products and maximizing recycling in their production, packaging and day-to-day work.

Keekaroo - Sustainability is achieved through product design (peanut change pads are wipe down to clean) as well as responsible manufacturing.  The Right Heights highchair is made from a renewable natural resource called Rubber Wood.

4.Think consciously about your guest favours

Look for green ideas that can be easily sent electronically or via post to your guests.

Rebelstork eco favor picks:

Let Love Grow - Gift your guests some plantable biodegradable seed packets so your ladies can put something into bloom alongside you.  These packets can be customized with your Baby’s date of birth for a nice personal touch.

A Group Charitable Donation -  ChariTree is a wonderful Environmental Education charity for children. Plant a tree that can grow up with your baby!

We hope these ideas will help you throw a virtual shower you and your flock will look back on fondly for years to come. Happy planning!
